The Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation presents the fourth annual Wine Around the Square!

Benefitting the Power of Pink, Rutherford County's premier fundraising program for breast cancer detection and treatment. Join us this year Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 for another year of great fun!

Take a look at our video on WATS!

Last year...more than 650 people enjoyed the 2015 Wine Around the Square, strolling the Square, talking with friends and listening to music while enjoying wine tastings, premium liquors and beers, and food samples from area restaurants.  Special thanks to all of the guests, vendors, in-kind media sponsors and volunteers who gave so much to make last year's event possible---please plan to join us again this year!

Now, hundreds of underinsured and uninsured Rutherford County women will have access all year long to diagnostic breast treatment, mammogram screenings and education, and lives will be saved by early detection.

The Power of Pink program was begun 12 years ago to provide financial support for the Saint Thomas Health/Susan G. Komen/Power of Pink “Our Mission in Motion” mobile mammography coach, to provide mammograms for indigent women in Rutherford County at the Center for Breast Health, and for breast cancer education and information.

Thank you for raising your glass and supporting the Power of Pink, benefitting Rutherford County women in the fight against breast cancer!

Dave Davis, WATS logistics chair and volunteer: We’re all in this together, folks!

Terri Sterling - Wednesday, June 29, 2016

What draws me to help fight breast cancer is that my sister, Lisa, passed away from breast cancer in 2004.I can still vividly remember the day she called me and told me the doctors found a small lump in her breast. She was so positive and upbeat that I had no doubt she would beat this.At that time, I knew so little about cancer, but soon I learned the hard way how cruel and crippling this disease can be.

Lisa is still an inspiration to me.Lisa was a teacher with the Murfreesboro City Schools and absolutely loved working with children and enjoyed seeing them grow into young adults. Often people will come up to me still today and tell me what an impact she had on their lives. That is one of the many ways that Lisa lives on today.

Because of Lisa, my mom and dad have always been very passionate about the Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation’s Power of Pink and helping women get access to care primarily. They are great role models in teaching us that part of our wholeness in life comes from giving to others.

When I moved back here---to my hometown---in 2014, I was looking for something to get involved in, an opportunity to volunteer. When my father had a brief stay at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, I happened into Anne Davis’ office at the hospital and asked her about volunteering with the Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation.

She said, “It just so happens we need someone to head up our logistics committee for Wine Around the Square” so here I am!Thankfully I had (and continue to have) plenty of support from Mary Lovelace and Bev McPherson, last year’s logistics chairs and countless other friends and community volunteers, and I’m still here for another year!

And, it’s so great to see the community come together in the heart of Murfreesboro. The courthouse is flooded with pink lights, the streets are crowded with people walking, talking, dancing, smiling and just having a good time. When I was a child growing up in Scottland Acres, we had block parties every summer. The whole neighborhood would show up and we had the best time strengthening friendships and welcoming new friends to our ‘hood.Wine Around the Square is the same fellowship.I hope more and more people will buy a ticket, know that all of their funds go to help people (no admin costs paid for by ticket sales) and come downtown and see why Murfreesboro is such a great place to live.Because hey folks, we’re all in this together.

Save the date! 2016 WATS is Saturday, Sept. 17

Terri Sterling - Wednesday, June 15, 2016

This is year #5 for Wine Around the Square, a great night of wine tastings, beer tastings, liquor tastings, lots of great food, live music and fun outside around the historic downtown Square in Murfreesboro.

It's all for a great cause---raising money for diagnostic breast cancer tests for women who are uninsured and underinsured. Every single penny raised goes directly to this great cause---all expenses are underwritten by Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

We couldn't do it without scores of volunteers and people who give so freely of their time, energy, commitment and resources.

People like:

***Charlie Patel and Angela Lacy at Stones River Total Beverages (thank you for all of the wine, beer and liquor!)

***All of the wonderful restaurants who donate great food for our guests, including the Parthenon, Christie BBQ, The Goat, Blue Coast Burrito, The Alley, Slick Pig and so many others that are in the works right now...

***The great musicians like Frazier & Company, and entertainers from the Center of the Arts (they're going to be back this year!)

***The 40-plus volunteers on the leadership team, plus the scores of others who help put the event on, including our Trio of leaders: Patty Marschel, Rita Ash and Caroline Lampley.

And so many more...take a look at the photo shoot we did this week for VIP Magazine (thanks Carrie Beth Catron!), featuring VIP Party Co-Chairs Kit Ramsey, Mary White and Mary Hatcliff. The VIP Party will be held at the beautiful environment of Daffodilly Design on Vine Street, owned by Lori Sain Smith. Special thanks to Angel Pardue of Angel Pardue Photography for her great work at the shoot.

Terri Sterling - Monday, August 31, 2015

New this year: Beer Garden, outdoor “living room” seating, a record 32 downtown venues to visit, after-party at The Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar

Fourth Annual Wine Around the Square/Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation

Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in historic downtown Murfreesboro

Tickets at winearoundthesquare.org

*************

During the last fiscal year, the Power of Pink and Wine Around the Square made possible 482 mammograms for Rutherford County women who are uninsured, underinsured or indigent. Six people were diagnosed with breast cancer last year through the Power of Pink program.

*************

Four new downtown Murfreesboro venues will host a brand new addition---a Beer Garden---to the fourth annual Wine Around the Square (WATS) Saturday, Sept. 19. SHAVE Barber Lounge, Eischeid Law Office, REGAL TITLE, and Personal Loan and Investment Company will serve as our “tap rooms,” according to 2015 Logistics Coordinator Dave Davis. Main Event tickets are $60 per person for the event and are available for purchase online at winearoundthesquare.org.

Twelve craft beers will be served, thanks to event sponsor Charlie Patel and Stones River Total Beverages, who every year arranges for all of the wine, premium liquors and beers to be donated for the event. The Beer Garden will also have corn hole games and picnic tables amid festival lighting.

“Every year we add something new,” said Anne Davis, Director of the Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation. “This year, we are adding a lot of new elements, including outdoor seating near the Courthouse with lounging sofas, more food than ever from many more food vendors, and a record 32 downtown shops and offices that will be open for wine-tasting, lemonade, bottled water and shopping. We want to provide a great value and a lot of fun for the hundreds of people we are planning for this year.”

Planning in full force for the VIP party!

Terri Sterling - Tuesday, August 11, 2015

The planning for the VIP party for the 2015 Wine Around the Square, sponsored by the Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation, is in full force!

This year the party is at the Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar on the historic downtown Square in Murfreesboro...a really fun venue...and music will be provided by Tim James and the James Brothers.

Tim James is a Grammy award-winning songwriter, and he will be performing many familiar songs currently on the radio, as well as his own music.  He'll be joined by his two brothers, who are also musicians, in a very rare family appearance.  They only play together once or twice a year these days, Tim tells us.

Great wine, great food, great fellowship!  The party is once again being led by Deb Thompson and Roy Snipes (second and third from left), the VIP Co-Chairs, along with great support from WATS leaders Patty Marschel (also the event's Founder, far left), Rita Ash and Caroline Lampley, Co-Chairs.

What a team!  Tickets for the VIP party are $250 each at winearoundthesquare.org and also include the Main Event and the After-Party!

It's going to be a great night for a great cause!  Come join us Saturday, Sept. 19 and help raise money to provide Rutherford County women full access to diagnostic mammograms.
